Glen Powell on writing ‘Captain Planet’ movie adaptation – The Hollywood Reporter

Glen Powell has a moment. The actor who made his breakthrough on Fox’s Scream queens Rides a wave of film success after starring in Netflix’s beloved romantic comedy Implement, featured in Mike Newell’s Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and land a role in the highly anticipated Top Gun following.

With a host of big plans in the works, Powell sat down with Hollywood journalist and talked about how he went from person to person in Hollywood. “It’s hard work. Be the guy no one believes in for a while and all of a sudden get opportunities [to] working with people you’ve always admired is like a dream come true, ”said Powell.

Powell’s recent success came quickly, but he isn’t resting on his laurels or just focusing on acting. In addition to working on upcoming projects with Ron Howard and Channing Tatum, he is currently writing the screenplay for the film adaptation of Captain Planet and the Planets – the cartoon for environmentally conscious children from the 90s it’s in development at Paramount and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions.

Captain Planet was one of Powell’s favorite shows as a kid, but he said THR his version of the mule environmental avenger will be different. “I mean, they’ve tried to make a superhero movie out of it before, but they kind of liked a serious awareness and ours is way more subversive and fun and like dark and irreverent,” a- he declared.

He added, “Sometimes you have to think of these things logically. If you have a blue superhero with a green mule, you can’t pretend you’re serious. You have to go for a fun [direction]. “

Screenwriting presented new challenges for Powell, but he says he enjoys the process. “It’s been an interesting process and it’s taken a long time, but now we’re putting it in place and we’re really excited about it,” said Powell.
