Here is a little news that I know I did not expect to read this morning: Leonardo DiCaprio is looking to redo Captain Planet and the Planeteers, the ecological Saturday morning cartoon of our childhood. It won’t be a cartoon either. According to Hollywood journalist, it’ll be a live-action remake with a whole different tone, maybe a little more grown-up. âSources say the story takes place years after the show’s adventures, with the captain now a stranded has-be who needs the kids more than they need him,â the report said.
Is it just me or does it sound like maybe it’s kinda like Galaxy Quest? I mean, if they decide not to go with the gritty, somber tone that pervades almost every movie these days, then a comedy Captain Planet and the Planeteers to the Galaxy Quest looks wonderful.
It’s worth noting that DiCaprio would be producing the film, without necessarily playing the lead role in it. While many of us would love to see how a green DiCaprio would perform onscreen as a superhero, it doesn’t look like it’s meant to be.
As far as development is concerned, it is still in its infancy. The studio is still working to acquire the rights to the original cartoon series. it’s going to be very, very interesting to see how it all unfolds. In addition, it will be Great interesting to see who will bring a dark and sad Captain Planet to life on the big screen.
In the meantime, we’ll always have my favorite Captain Planet: Don Cheadle.
Trees. Everyone is trees.
