RAKwireless Announces Partnership with One Planet Education Network to Launch STEM IoT Sensor Kits for Schools Worldwide

SHENZHEN, CHINA – RAKwireless Technology Co., Ltd. (RAK), a pioneer in end-to-end LPWA solutions and IoT technology, today announces its partnership with One Planet Education Network to provide OPEN-RAK Do-It-Yourself (DIY) STEM Lab Sensor Wisblock Kits to students . The mission is to bridge the digital divide by providing students around the world with easy-to-use kits that teach students real-world applications of IoT, with students deploying to their local communities for sustainable community development applications. Early applications would include the deployment of student-developed sensors for sustainable agriculture, climate change, and air quality monitoring.

The goal of the program is to create a global network for teaching IoT sensors and data analysis. The network allows students around the world to come together and gain hands-on experience building IoT devices and modules, sharing data across the globe with each other, and developing skills to improve their own communities through to the use of this powerful, versatile RAK technology, supported by OPEN education and research programs.

Students receive a kit with a variety of ready-to-build sensors and modules ranging from GPS trackers, CO2 gas, light sensors, temperature gauges, and humidity sensors.

Students use these tools to analyze, store, and download information on everything from local air pollution information, community agriculture, school garden weather data, and more. Each individual has the opportunity to collaborate through our IoT data servers and share their data and research results with other student scientists around the world.

“We envision that this IoT program will empower students around the world to think creatively,” said Maria Hernandez, electronics engineer and IoT education advocate at RAKwireless. “Two-thirds of kids today will end up working with technology in areas that haven’t even seen the light of day yet. Applications applied by the IoT community take today’s tech-savvy students through a more creative learning process, helping them think in original ways about the many real-world problems we face as a society. Through such technological applications, we intend to inspire and prepare the future inventors, scientists, engineers and social scientists of our world who will need to use technology to solve environmental problems and global challenges. of today, as well as the problems of tomorrow that our young students will have to face.”

Using the WisBlock Modular IoT Development Kit, students start with an industrial-grade connector, allowing them to use the same component modules from rapid prototyping through testing to the final product. With the ready-to-use software blocks, it is simple to create an application to meet all the solution requirements. Teachers and students are also guided by OPEN-RAK-Helium-Ubidots partnership teams, instructional videos, online tutorials, curriculum, and professional development (PD) support.

“OPEN-RAKwireless has combined its talents to create a set of IoT products and support education programs that take STEM education to a new level,” said George Newman, founder and CEO of OPEN.

“Together, we have formed an educational IoT collaboration with fellow IoT industry-leading partners, Helium and Ubidots. Each member brings specialist expertise and complementary offerings, offering a diverse range of industrial-grade sensors built and programmed by students who can now be linked via a secure end-to-end network to a comprehensive data visualization and analysis platform. This not only provides a powerful and unique educational solution for schools around the world, but as we envision, this will allow students to apply their technology to solve many of the environmental problems of our time while preparing them for the technology-driven job market of the future.
