The Ben Oliver film tribute variant cover for DCeased: Dead Planet # 6 reinvents the 2019 Shazam poster! film starring Mary Marvel.
The late writer Tom Taylor shared the cover of artist Ben Oliver’s film tribute variant for the sixth and penultimate issue of Deceased: Dead planet – which reinvents the poster for the DC Extended Universe 2019 movie Shazam! with Mary Marvel as the star.
The original poster of Shazam! shows the eponymous hero – played by Zachary Levi – leaning back with a smartphone in his hands as he bubbles with his gum. that of Olivier Dead planet Variant # 6 recreates this image, but with Mary Marvel – with an alternative Deceased logo based on Shazam!‘s.
“Hey! [DC Comics] gave me the green light to share this brilliant tribute blanket for our next one [DCeased: Dead Planet]. [Ben Oliver] crush it again. ”Taylor wrote on Twitter, also thanking editor-in-chief Ben Abernathy. The original version of the cover that Taylor shared featured it as the variant for Dead planet # 5. However, he later clarified that the cover is, in fact, for number 6, and shared a Updated version. The writer also teased, “And wait until you see the # 7 tribute cover.”
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! released in theaters in April 2019, starring Asher Angel as Billy Batson and Levi as Shazam, Billy’s super alter ego. Billy’s foster siblings were also present and represented, including Mary Bromfield, played by Grace Fulton. Mary’s heroic alter ego – known as Mary Marvel in the comics – appears late in the film alongside the rest of the Marvel family and is played by Michelle Borth. A sequel to the 2019 film – titled Shazam! The fury of the gods – is slated to hit theaters in November 2022. Meanwhile, a spin-off film starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Black Adam is slated to arrive in December 2021.
Written by Taylor and illustrated by Trevor Hairsine and Gigi Baldassini, Deceased: Dead planet is the last chapter of Taylor’s Deceased comic book saga. To date, three issues of Dead Planet have been published, with the most recent arriving last Tuesday. Issue 4 is expected to go on sale in early October, followed by Issue 5 in early November. Numbers 6 and 7 will likely follow in December and January, respectively. This Shazam!-The inspired variant starring Mary Marvel is just the latest in a series of tribute covers that have been featured as part of the series, which have paid homage to DC movies such as V for Vendetta, Aquaman and Wonder woman.
